Introduction

Abstract

This volume of Mediaevalia – Textos e Estudos publishes a set of studies that reflect relevant results of the project « Animale Rationale Mortale. The body-soul relationship and the passions of the soul in the Commentaries on Aristotle’s De anima of 16th century Portuguese Universities. The project, funded by FCT (ref. EXPL/MHC-FIL/1703/2012), was worked out by a team of researchers constituted in the Medieval Philosophy Office of the Philosophy Institute of the University of Porto (Gabinete de Filosofia Medieval do Instituto de Filosofia Universidade do Porto). As an exploratory project with the duration of one year, it set itself, first of all, to trace and preliminarily identify the commentaries on Aristole’s De anima that served as a basis to the teaching of philosophy in the Universities of Coimbra and Évora, in the second half of the 16th century, placing them in their context and relative to the position of this work of Aristotle in the philosophical debates of the Middle Ages.

Introdução
Este volume de Mediaevalia – Textos e Estudos publica um conjunto de estudos que refletem resultados relevantes do projeto de investigação «Animal Rationale Mortale. A relação corpo-alma e as paixões da alma nos Comentários ao De anima de Aristóteles das Universidades portuguesas do séc. XVI». O projeto, financiado pela FCT (ref. EXPL/MHC-FIL/1703/2012), foi desenvolvido por uma equipa de investigadores constituída no Gabinete de Filosofia Medieval do Instituto de Filosofia Universidade do Porto. Sendo um projeto exploratório com um ano de duração, propunha-se em primeiro lugar rastrear e fazer uma identificação preliminar de comentários ao De anima de Aristóteles que serviram de base ao ensino da Filosofia nas universidades de Coimbra e Évora na segunda metade do século XVI, integrando-os no seu contexto e no lugar desta obra de Aristóteles nos debates filosóficos desde a Idade Média.
