Ymaginatio in the Commentary on De Anima Attributed to Petrus Hispanus

Abstract

This paper aims to place the role of the imagination in the Commentary, attributed to Petrus Hispanus (13^th century), on Aristotle’s De Anima (Sententia cum questionibus in Aristotelis De anima I-II), within an Avicennian psychological framework. In fact, imagination, as it appears in the Sententia, results from the combination of this Avicennian theoretical background with Petrus Hispanus’ intent of preserving faithfulness to the Aristotelian text, as this study tries to show.

Ymaginatio no Comentário ao De anima atribuído a Pedro Hispano

Resumo

Este artigo tem como objetivo situar o papel desempenhado pela imaginação no Comentário sobre o De anima (Sententia cum questionibus in Aristotelis De anima I-II) atribuído a Pedro Hispano (séc. XIII) no quadro da psicologia aviceniana. A imaginação, tal como aparece na Sententia, é o resultado da influência teórica aviceniana em confronto com a vontade de Pedro Hispano de manter a fidelidade ao texto aristotélico, como o estudo tratará de mostrar.
